Quick-Scripts

Some quick scripts to automate some simple tasks.

  1. AdvHonorsShuffle.py and HonorsShuffle.py
    1. These create awesome dance moves.
    2. No, really, they shuffle the class into meeting slots for consecutive one-on-one meetings.
    3. Notice the first line of each file; if I use chmod to make these executable, it allows me to run them from command-line without having to type 'python3' first. It also means that it always uses python3, instead of defaulting to python2 and throwing an error message, which happens approximately every single time for me.
  2. chooseStudent.py: If you have a list of students and you want to select them in a sequence, use this. I use this to decide who's next when we are doing presentations in class.
  3. generatorTest.py: Demonstrate the difference between a generator and an iterator in Python.
  4. massClone.py: I use this when I have a bunch of students' work on Github, I can clone the whole class worth at a time.
  5. parse_dir.py: Find files larger than 10MB in a directory listing that was dumped to a text file. I would do this way differently now.
