OLED:

  • you can find these 7 pin, 1.3" displays on ebay, aliexpress and other places for < 10$. they'll be ok, as long as the description claims that they are SH1106 (or SSD1306); and that the pinout is:

    GND - VCC - D0 - D1 - RST - DC - CS, or

    GND - VCC - CLK - MOSI - RES - DC - CS, or

    GND - VDD - SCK - SDA - RES - DC - CS

  • make sure you get the right size: 1.3" (not 0.96")! and once you've received it, make sure the display is configured for SPI (see resistors/labels on the back side of the OLED).

  • alternatively, here are .brd/.sch files for a/the OLED carrier board. in that case, you'd need to get the bare OLED (and some passives). for example here (though there's cheaper options for getting bare OLEDs).

SMD resistors (0805):

value # part note
100R 4x 603-RC0805FR-07100RL 1%
510R 2x 603-RC0805JR-07510RL or simply use 1k, value not critical
1k 7x 603-RC0805FR-071KL 1%
1k2 1x 71-CRCW08051K20FKEA 1%
1k8 1x 71-CRCW0805-1.8K-E3 1%
3k 2x 660-RK73H2ATTD3001F 1%
3k9 2x 660-RK73H2ATTD3901F 1%
6k8 1x 660-RK73H2ATTD6801F 1%
10k 7x 660-RK73H2ATTD1002F 1% (‡)
20k 6x 71-CRCW0805-20K-E3 1% (‡)
33k 6x 660-RK73H2ATTD3302F 1%
100k 10x 660-RK73H2ATTD1003F 1%
  • (‡) the (digital) clock outputs are non-inverting op amps, the values on the pcb (20k feedback, 10k to ground) will result in 3x gain, or 9.9v on the outputs. adjust, if you like. for example, 15k would give you 3.3v * (20k/15k + 1) = 7.7, etc.

  • (†) also see the build guide: we need 14 pins on either side plus the DAC pin, so best to simply use 14 on the one side, and 13 + 2 on the other. the PCBs holes are small, so best to use so-called "machine" pin sockets + pin strip to match.
